Environmental sustainability and green development

Ensuring a decent standard of living within planetary boundaries requires decoupling economic growth from the increasing use of raw materials and energy and achieving net-zero emissions. Progress in the transition to a low-carbon circular economy can be assessed in terms of emission, energy and material productivity. Slovenia performs below the EU average in all three areas. Preserving biodiversity and natural resources is particularly important, including through sustainable agriculture and forestry. Achieving the ambitious targets set will depend crucially on making effective use of all available financial resources and harnessing new knowledge, innovation and sustainable investment to bring about systemic shifts towards clean and efficient solutions.
