Social inclusion and social development
High participation of young people in education and low income inequality contribute significantly to equal opportunities to participate in society and the labour market. However, participation of adults in education and training and of the unemployed in active labour market policies is low. Despite social transfers, a large proportion of households and vulnerable groups are exposed to poverty, social exclusion and housing deprivation. For many years, the ageing population has contributed to the unsustainability of the pension system and the backlog in the development of home care services. The biggest challenges are the long waiting times and the lack of medical staff.
Economic Issues 2016
Economic Issues has been dealing with topics that require an economic policy response since its first edition in 2007. This year’s publication focuses on fiscal policy and developments as well as responses to demographic change in Slovenia. We also prepared international conference about the topics.

In the past few years, Slovenia has taken a number of positive steps and slightly narrowed its development gap with the EU. Regardless of positive shifts, challenges remain in terms of ensuring a more sustainable improvement to Slovenia’s growth potential and the welfare of its population, which will require more radical structural changes.
